I'm not a resident of your neighborhood (I live in the Larchmont area, also in N. Arlington) but thought someone might have an answer to my question. What are the ruins located on the run about halfway between the river and Military Rd. I've heard rumors that it was once a swimming pool or something of a recreational nature, but does anyone know for sure?
Thanks, Richard Garner

Donaldson Run stream was previously called "Swimming Landing Run". Approx. 1880, a stone dam was built to build a swimming hole. The remains of the stone wall are still apparent on both sides of the stream. There is a ceramic pipe at the bottom of the wall that was used to release the water downstream. This swimming hole was used by the residents of Georgetown, and accessed by the river. At some point, that wall was destroyed. Probably by flood and floating tree. Around the 1920's, farther upstream, a cement wall was built to dam the stream, and create a swimming hole. Built onto the wall, downstream side is a shower room used for rinsing off. The remains of both of these walls remain.

Thanks for the info Dan. Any idea who was responsible for building these structures?
